Unexpected Treats

Is there anything more beautiful than having your children want to be with you?  I had a delightful treat last night.  My second oldest brought his girlfriend home to meet the family for the first time and they and my oldest son invited me to go out with them to our very nice, college town, down town area on the waterfront with them.  We went for a couple of slices of New York style pizza at Fortunato’s and then to the Cold Stone Creamy for the most stupendous dessert.  It was only the second time I’ve been there.  I don’t get out much at all and I’m still feeling the excitement!

This was after I had made dinner for the rest of the kids and my husband, of course; all of whom were happy to give me a couple of hours of freedom.  The evening was a healing experience in its own right that was topped off with a small gift.  I found a sterling silver charm and necklace as we arrived at Cold Stone’s.  First the chain and then I realized there must have been something on it and looked at the dark pavement.  Sure enough, there it was , a little, half inch owl.  I am taking that as a good sign.  My sincere thanks to the person who dropped it.

We have tiny screech owls that live in our oak trees and I love listening to them speak late at night.  No screeching, it’s a soft, low trilling sound.

Owls symbolize wisdom, insight, and virtue.  They are the totem for those with psychic abilities, those who can find the truth in the most dimly lit places; a person with the traits of an owl can hunt out unnecessary vermin and expel them with ease; always balancing, not overdoing.  This is within their own life as well as those of others they choose to help.

Dare I accept these traits as my own?  I’d love to.  I think I need a bit of practice, though.
